Manacle

Manacle

There was never any uncertainty before witnessing your steel eyes
eating me up like I had misjudged the calm of the glassy surface
drowning before your calculating stare.

Ignoring all signs of danger
submerged in the deep end of your glare,
there is nowhere to go but down.

Down onto my knees
where you promised to love and cherish me
although the tick of your jaw signaled treachery.

How lovely your touch can be until it clenches making robust
souls plead and bleed for your amusement alone.

Makes my skin crawl with invisible bites and stings
while sounds like a distressed kitten
fall on deft ears bought and paid for by your manacle hold
on everything your flint eyes behold.

After experiencing all you promised and more,
pointed me towards the door of  merciful release
but alas
I swam too deep
so now I'm chained to where I'll never experience relief unless it's at your feet.

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - What I Am

I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know, if you know what I mean Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box Religion is the smile on a dog I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah Shove me in the shallow waters Before I get too deep What I am is what I am Are you what you are or what? What I am is what I am Are you what you are, or? Oh, I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know, if you know what I mean Philosophy is a walk on the slippery rocks Religion is a light in the fog I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah
